Eastwater Mendip : Lots of it, hard work so not for total novii. 13 Pots is great. Pay the farmer - change in the barn if offered. Pitches are laddered off naturals. Entrance choke floods a bit and parts of the West ENd series flood severely, apart from that mosly weatherproof.
Eyam Dale House Cave Peak SK220763

Finding the place : If you have come up the road from Middleton Dale to Eyam, turn left onto the main road through the village and Eyam Dale House is on the left after not-very-far. Ask at reception for a key and where to park/change etc. You have to sign a book for the key but I wasn't asked for insurance docuentation etc., but you may be. Phone number for the place is on HNH website.

Entrance pitch : Ladders better than string 'cos it's narrow, sloping and would need lots of deviations. 2 SUSS ladders just reach. Take a 35m rope to use a tree as a backup - also makes lining much easier.

Straight across 2nd pitch and turn right over flowstone to get to climb down - assisted handline for freshers. The crawl through the puddle (a bit minging) at the bottom goes to one nice bit. Climbs at the end of this crawl require spotting so leader through first there's nowhere to pass.

Peak Peak - Castleton Complex system. Splosh up the streamway, crawl through muddy tight bits, crawl through more even tighter bits to get through to White River, Speedwell, Far Peak etc
Cave has the largest shaft in England (Titan) and some of the finest formations (White River)

Swildon's Hole Mendip Excellent for any standard of caver. Can spend 2 hrs in top series with beginners, or down to the sump (20' ladder, p-bolts). Flooding - can be done in any weather but best avoided with beginners if it's been very wet. Sump one is a 4' free-dive, ideal first sump. Mud sump for round trip still sumped off. £1 - Farmer
